Learn to see light and color in a new way in this two-day workshop taught by landscape painter Hilary Schenker. Whether a sunny sky, a moonlight night, or a lamp, paintings are defined by light. Through still life painting, practice learning to see value, cool versus warm, the quality of light, and to feel confident in your color choices. Each class will include a combination of demonstration and individual direction. Students may work in either acrylic or water-mixable oil paint. Everyone will leave inspired, with new tools for more expressive and realistic paintings.
Class meets on Saturday and Sunday:

Class size limited to 15. Cancellations must be made at least 7 days before the first class.
Supply list:
Acrylic paints, or water-mixable oil paint
Recommended colors:
Ultramarine Blue
Phthalo Blue
Cadmium Red (Medium or Dark)
Alizarin Crimson=
Lemon Yellow
Cadmium Yellow (Medium or Deep)
Burnt Umber
Titanium White
Brushes :
Either synthetic or natural bristles in at least three sizes (one detail, one medium flat, one large flat).
I recommend these:
Flat #2 (1/4”)
Flat #7 or #8 (1/2”)
Flat #10 or #12 (3/4”)
Round #2 thin detail brush (synthetic)
Other:
-One 11" x 14" canvas to paint on
-If using water-mixable oil paint, bring water-mixable linseed oil
-Roll of freezer paper and some tape to tape it down, to use as a pallet.
-Pallet knife
-Roll of paper towels
There are a small number of easels available which will be available first come first serve, so students should plan to bring their own easel.
*Materials Pass Option: Students who prefer to use class materials during class instead of bringing their own have the option to purchase a materials pass for an additional $50. If you would like to purchase a materials pass, please notify me at least five days before the first class.
